Dr Gwen Lowe

Dr Gwen Lowe was appointed to the ACMSF in 2017. She is a former Consultant in Public Health Medicine and a Consultant in Communicable Disease Control in Wales. She has expertise in dealing with multiple food-related and other incidents and outbreaks. She has chaired numerous multiagency outbreak control teams and received the prestigious Welsh Government ‘Recognising Achievement for Service to Wales’ award in 2011 in recognition of her work leading the response to two high-profile outbreaks of communicable disease in South Wales, one of which was a foodborne outbreak of E. coli O157.

Dr Lowe is a formally appointed Proper Officer for local authorities in Wales (and Port Medical Officer for local authorities with ports) for legislation related to the control of communicable disease and health protection. She is the operational lead for health protection emergency response for Public Health Wales and is also the Chair of the South Wales Local Resilience Forum Infectious Diseases Group, which plans for major infectious disease issues.
