Ad Hoc Group on Campylobacter meetings: 6 May and 5 July 2016

Summary of the first and second meetings of the Ad Hoc Group on Campylobacter.

The first meeting of the group was held on 6 May when the main focus of discussion had been the draft terms of reference, scope of work, outputs of the group and structure of the group’s proposed report.

At the second meeting held on 5 July by teleconference members considered a report on progress made on the second report on Campylobacter recommendations and discussed the chapter outlines provided for their proposed report. The proposed chapter headings include:

  • Campylobacter biology and tools for detection
  • Campylobacter genetics and genomics
  • Campylobacter in broiler chickens: commensal or pathogens?”
  • Review current state of knowledge and draw conclusions
  • Source attribution
  • Human epidemiology and transmission routes
  • Risk in the food chain
  • Controls (regulatory framework for products of concern, EU targets etc.) and evidence of success in other countries
  • Lessons learned and how applicable
  • Attitude to risk
  • Motivations and barriers to change
  • Economics
  • Forward look

Future meetings had been scheduled for the following dates:

  • 29 September 2016 (starting at 10.30am)
  • 25 November  2016 (starting at 10.30am)
  • 9 February 2017 (starting at 10.30am)
