In June 2000, the Public Health Laboratory Service (PHLS) presented a paper (ACM/476) to the ACMSF exploring whether there was a significant risk of human illness associated with the consumption of ready-to-eat fruit and vegetables. The Committee concluded that there was no cause for serious concern but asked the PHLS to keep the matter under review and to provide the Committee with a progress report in 2001 of international developments. The Committee also asked to see the results of the PHLS' more detailed analysis of the England and Wales outbreak data included in ACM/476. Dr Bob Mitchell and Dr Bob Adak (PHLS) will introduce paper ACM/510 which updates ACM/476. This item has been carried over from the Committee's 40th meeting.

7. PHLS presentation on PHLS/LACOTS examination of RTE foods with added spices (ACM/509)

Dr Bob Mitchell (PHLS) will present the results of this survey. This item has been carried over from the Committee's 40th meeting.

At the ACMSF's suggestion, the FSA has carried out a review of the industry's code of practice on vacuum packaging and associated processes and has produced revised guidance. The ACMSF will be invited to comment on the draft guidance contained in ACM/548 which will be introduced by Dr Kathryn Callaghan.
