37th ACMSF Meeting Agenda and Papers

The thirty seventh meeting of the Advisory Committee on the Microbiological Safety of Food will be held at 10.30 am on 21 June 2000 in Room 125A Skipton House, 80 London Road, Elephant and Castle, London SE1.

Members will be asked to agree ACM/MIN/36 as a correct record of the meeting held on 17 March 2000.

4. Matters arising

5. Campylobacter ACM/475

Members will receive a draft report of the Microbiological Safety of Food Funders' Group on UK publicly-funded research relating to Campylobacter.

6. Ready-to-eat fruit and vegetables ACM/476

The Public Health Laboratory Service will present a paper exploring whether there is significant human illness associated with the consumption of ready-to-eat fresh fruit and vegetables. This will enable members to assess the need for further ACMSF work in this area.

7. Salmonella in Eggs Working Group : partial draft report ACM/478

The Working Group's Chairman, Dr Mike Painter, will introduce a partial draft of the Working Group┬┐s report. The aim is to afford members an opportunity to comment on the shape and coverage of the report so far and to point out any omissions or areas of major disagreement.

8. Clostridium botulinum ACM/479

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) will present a report of a literature review on Clostridium botulinum in preserved products.

9. Briefing the Food Standards Agency Board, and review of risk assessment.

The Chairman will give an oral report on his participation in

- a briefing and discussion session for the FSA Board on 24 May; and

- a review of the principles and procedures of risk assessment used by the Government┬┐s scientific committees dealing with food safety. ACM/474

10. Surveillance

Surveillance Working Group ACM/481

The Chairman will introduce a paper recommending the setting up of a standing Surveillance Working Group to help advise funding Departments in planning microbiological food surveillance and animal and human surveillance projects.

FSA survey of raw chicken ACM/482

The FSA will seek the advice of members in connection with their planned surveillance of raw chicken on retail sale for Salmonella and Campylobacter.
