ACMSF agenda: 1 December 2004

The 54th meeting of the Advisory Committee on the Microbiological Safety of Food will be held at 10.30 am on Wednesday 1 December 2004 in Trinity House, Trinity Square, Tower Hill, London EC1. This meeting is open to members of the public.

4. Minutes of the 53rd meeting (ACM/MIN/53)
Members will be invited to approve ACM/MIN/53 as a correct record of the Committee’s 53rd meeting.

5. Matters arising (ACM/710)
The Secretariat has produced an information paper summarising action taken on points arising from the minutes of previous meetings.

6. Working Group on Campylobacter (ACM/711 and ACM/712)
Professor Reilly will present the revised draft of the 2nd Report on Campylobacter, and the draft ACMSF response to the outcome of the consultation, for adoption by the Committee.

7. Egg advice (ACM/713)
Members will receive a paper from the Food Standards Agency seeking their views on whether the current advice issued by the FSA to caterers and consumers is still appropriate.

8. FSA Consultation on guidelines for vacuum-packaged and modified atmosphere packaged foods (ACM/714)
Members will receive a paper from the Food Standards Agency summarising the comments received in response to the consultation. Members’ views on options for publishing the document, in the light of key comments from industry, will be sought.

9. Ad hoc Group on botulism in cattle
The ACMSF Chairman will update the Committee on progress made by the Group to consider the implications of spreading poultry litter in terms of the risk to human health.

10. Ad hoc Group on infant botulism (ACM/715)
The Chair of the Ad Hoc Group on Infant Botulism (Professor O’Brien) will present an interim report on the findings of the Group.

11. Committee sub-groups

  • The Chair of the Ad Hoc Group on Imported Foods (Mr Mepham) will report on the progress of this Group.
  • The Chair of the Ad Hoc Group on Newly-emerging pathogens (Professor Hunter) will report on the progress of this Group.

    12. Annual Report 2004 (ACM/716)
    Members will be invited to comment on the draft Annual Report 2004 and the Committee’s forward work programme.
