ACMSF 43rd Meeting 21 March 2002

The 43rd meeting of the Advisory Committee on the Microbiological Safety of Food will be held at 10.30 am on Thursday 21 March 2002 in Rooms 4 and 5 of the 4th Floor Conference Suite, Aviation House, 125 Kingsway, London WC2. This will be a closed meeting. The Committee’s next open meeting will be held on 5 December 2002 at Trinity House.

The Food Standards Agency will report on Agency work on manures and slurries. Members’ comments will be invited.

7. Horizon scanning (ACM/559)

Members’ views will be sought on whether there are any emerging issues in relation to microbiological food safety which may require ACMSF consideration in the foreseeable future.

8. Risk assessment (ACM/560)

Members’ views will be sought on a proposal to set up an Ad Hoc Group to consider the scope for putting the ACMSF’s risk assessment process on a more structured footing.

9. Food Standards Agency food hygiene campaign (ACM/561)

In its reports and advice, the ACMSF has consistently stressed the importance of high standards of food hygiene in reducing the risks of food poisoning. The Food Standards Agency will brief Members, and answer their questions, on the Agency’s food hygiene campaign which was launched on 11 February.

10. Clostridium botulinum : vegetables in oil (ACM/562)

At its 42nd meeting, the ACMSF considered draft FSA guidance on the risk of growth of Cl. botulinum, and toxin production, in vacuum and modified atmosphere packaged foods. As signalled at that meeting, the FSA has now produced further Cl. botulinum guidance, this time on vegetables in oil. ACMSF Members’ comments are invited.
